Slate beta terms
Last updated November 3, 2026
Thanks for testing Slate. The beta is free, and it’s the same app the paid version will be. These terms cover how it works and what to expect. Apart from what’s said here, the Slate license agreement applies to the beta too.
Your beta key
- Your beta key is free. You get it by email when you check out the free “Slate Beta” product.
- It unlocks Slate 0.x, the beta releases. Slate 1.0 needs a Slate 1 license. We’ll email testers about 1.0 before it ships.
- The key is for you. Please don’t pass it on. If someone else wants to try Slate, send them to support@kazbit.com.
- You can see your key and free up a Mac in your account.
It’s a beta
Beta releases have bugs, and some of them could cost you work. Slate saves every board as an SVG file in a folder you choose, and keeps a version history of each board, but keep backups of anything that matters, for example with Time Machine.
Beta releases update themselves from the beta channel. We may change, remove or add features between releases, and we may end the beta at any time. If it ends, your boards stay yours and keep opening.
Feedback
Help › Send Feedback in Slate opens an email with your Slate version, macOS version and Slate’s log file attached, and you can check all of it before you send it. Feedback is what the beta is for, so please use it.
When you send us feedback or ideas, you let us use them to improve Slate, without owing you anything for them. We’ll never publish your name or your email without asking you first.
Talking about Slate
You’re welcome to talk about Slate and share screenshots. If you write about it, please mention that it’s a beta.
Privacy
The beta sends exactly what the paid version does: license activation and checks, and update checks. The privacy policy has the details. There’s no extra tracking in the beta.
No warranty
The beta is provided “as is”, with no warranty of any kind. Sections 9 and 10 of the license agreement apply in full.
